The Start: When God Beckons

Sai  Baba of Shirdi
||Shraddha Saburi||

Today, I'd like to share with the world the story of a great person. One who touches several lives and heals people on a daily basis with the help of numerology, astrology and a very large bit of divine intervention.

Every great story has a humble history. Small beginnings sometimes lead to great adventures. Such has been the life and journey of this life changer who is being guided by Sai Baba of Shirdi.

The Lord spoke to her. Yes, He truly did. Just as He speaks to each one of us - day in and day out. Most of the time we are too busy to tune in. But, this voice grows louder and stronger and more fierce every time we listen and accede to it.

Born in a Bengali Brahman family, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the numerologist  was a high achiever since the beginning. She was exposed to a life of strict discipline and ordinance as both her parents served Indian Air force. Partly because of this, hard work comes very naturally to her.

This blue-eyed daughter of her father took exactly after him. She talked like him, worked like him and tried to imitate all of his ways so that she could grow up to be just as great as he was. He was her guru, mentor and guide. The only motto in her life was to please her parents and keep them happy. And she was really good at it.

Her father made music an intricate part of their lives. She sang in her deep, innocent voice and was therefore invited every evening to be part of a singing group that sang in praise of Sai Baba. This was her first ever introduction to Sri Sai Baba of Shirdi who is also know as Kaliyuga Avataar. This young and obedient child, who had discovered love in music, was blissfully unaware of the divinity she was evoking through the songs she sang with all her heart and soul in praise of the Lord.

Without her knowledge, God had entered her heart and had made a permanent place therein. He was guiding her thoughts, showing her the path and talking to her - loud and clear. Literally. She was stunning everyone, including herself.

Once as she stood in the balcony of her home with her youngest sister, she watched an ambulance stop at a house nearby. The paramedics lowered a mid-aged man and slowly rolled him into his home. He had survived a heart attack. A big victory for him and his family members. But, she heard a voice in her head, saying to her - "its a small win, before a big loss". Understanding that this meant his time on earth was almost over, she told her sister that the man didn't have long and would die soon. Horrified at her sisters words, the young girl admonished her not to say such things. But, the numerologist innocently explained, I'm not the one saying this. "Then who is?", asked her sister, wonder struck and confused. The numerologist didn't answer. But, the man died of another heart attack two days later.

This was how it all began. These were the very first steps of the journey of this healer/fortune-teller/professional numerologist or Sai's messenger - as addressed to her by her various clients across the world.

Her talks became reality, her words became the tangible truth - this created a steadfast belief in all those who knew her that she was indeed gifted and it was not sheer coincidence that the events occurred exactly as she had predicted long long before.

Her father was her greatest supporter and believer. As a person blessed with divinity himself, he could see that his daughter had inherited divine powers that ran in the family's bloodline. It is said that her grandfather was a very famous astrologer and face reader of his time. People called him Thakur. "Thakur" - meaning God in Bengali. With absolutely no formal training on astrology, Thakur would make accurate predictions and prophecies that always came true. It is also said that he had predicted his own date and time of death.

An important milestone into her journey as a numerologist can be credited to the time when Sai Baba appeared to her in her dream. He asked her to come and see Him at His abode in Shirdi within three days. She woke up and began to wonder how and when would she be able to go to Shirdi, this being her first visit ever. Her husband, who was then working as a journalist in The Times of India, seldom got opportunities to take holidays. Then a mircale happened. Her husband came home that evening and informed her that his boss had herself asked him to take off for a few days as his comp offs were due, and if he didn't avail them immediately, they would lapse. Awestruck and her heart overflowing with this wondrous turn of events, the numerologist immediately asked her husband to book tickets for Shirdi and told him that she really wanted to go there. Her amazement knew no bounds realising that not only Sri Sai Baba Himself came in her dream, but also cleared the path for her have His darshan at Shirdi that too within the stipulated time frame of three days.

This incident, is what I would like to call "the opening of the treasure chest". A chest that held the greatest magic and blessings, which was about to change her life forever.

She reached Shirdi and went to have the darshan of Sri Sai Baba. As she walked among the crowds towards the Mahasamadhi of Baba, an astonishing incident happened. In place of Sri Sai Baba, she saw her own father sitting there. It was a sublime outer world experience. One that no amount of words can describe. The crowds around had disappeared. No one could see or hear her, neither could she see anyone, except Him. She wept openly as she kept seeing her father sitting there, which was originally the place of the idol of Sai Baba. Tears kept flowing down her face unceasingly as she saw her father lovingly beckon her to him. He said to her as he always did when she went to meet him, "Ahh, my darling, you've come. That's just great, my sweetheart". Her heart overflowing with love, her mind exploding at the phenomenal events unfolding before her eyes, she walked close to Sri Sai Baba's Mahasamdhi where she still saw her own father seated and was saying all the wonderful and loving things to her just as he did ever year when she visited him at her home in Kanpur.

Although there were policemen and guards, driving away the ever increasing crowds, so as to manage the premise of the temple effectively, it appeared to the numerologist as though none could see her. She stood there in front of the statue of Sai Baba and saw her father smiling happily and telling her time and again how glad he was to finally see her here. He said he had waited so long for her to come here and was glad she did. His face shone with radiance. His eyes sparkled with lustre. Slowly, the difference between Sai Baba and her father diminished. She saw Sai asking her, "do you see now? I am no other than your own father. Never find yourself alone. I am always with you in the form of your father. He further told her, "quit your job. I have not put you on this earth to work in an office from 9 to 5. I have brought you to this earth to heal people. Just follow my advice and I will help you heal people." She heard these divine words. Saw her God and saviour Sai Baba and went back to her home in Hyderabad. She quit her job and began her life as a Numerologist and spiritual healer.
